YOU ARE INVITED TO OUR IN-PERSON HANDS-ON SCANNING EVENT IN TUCSON, AZ
Workshop Schedule for Hands-on Scanning Days
Please be a few minutes early for sign in before we begin teaching and scanning
8:00 am– 9:00 am: Simulation Experience, How to handle the transducer, Recognition of anatomical structures, Consideration of cross sectional anatomy
9:00 am– 10:00 am: Gynecologic scanning (2 patients) focused on normal anatomy primarily. Hopefully, we will have an IUD to locate.
10:00am - 12:00 pm: First trimester scanning (4 patients) A range of gestations 6-9 weeks up to 12 weeks.
12:00 pm– 1:00 pm: Lunch is provided
1:00 pm– 3:30 pm: Second & Third trimester scanning (5 patients), 2nd trimester measurement of gestational age, Recognizing appropriate anatomy. Amniotic fluid volume (AFV) , Cervical length and placental location
3:30 pm – 5:00 pm: Biophysical Profile (3 patients), The 3rd trimester will focus on the biophysical profile for assessment of fetal well-being. Discussion of each BPP criteria. Fetal presentation. Also, measurement of amniotic fluid volume, documentation of fetal position, and placental location.
5:00 pm – 5:15 pm: Completion of Evaluations and Awarding Certificates of Completion.
Please note that the schedule may vary based on the availability of our dedicated volunteers who generously contribute their time to enhance your learning experience. We strive to accommodate their schedules to ensure a valuable and educational event for all participants. Please understand that last-minute cancellations of volunteers can occasionally occur, but rest assured that our instructors are prepared with alternative options to maintain the integrity and educational value of the event.
Additionally, while we make every effort to match participants with exact trimester experiences, particularly in the first trimester, please be aware that exact matches may not always be possible. Regardless, we are committed to providing a comprehensive hands-on scanning experience that covers a wide range of obstetric and gynecologic scenarios.
During lunch breaks, we provide an informal session introducing the Midwife Certification Exam. This is an excellent opportunity to engage with instructors, ask questions, and gain insights on confidently integrating ultrasound into your clinical practice. Lunch will be provided each day.
Each group will have four students to one instructor. The days are long and have a continuous scanning schedule, so if at any point you need to excuse yourself for a restroom or personal break, please feel free. Just come back when you are ready. This is an event with a full day of scanning and working with ultrasound equipment. Make sure you are drinking water, getting snacks as needed, and wearing comfortable clothing and shoes - as you will be on your feet all day.
MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Gay Hull was born and raised in Texas where she began an extended career in Ob/Gyn nursing and ultrasound. She attained her BSN from the University of Texas and her MSN as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner from the University of Colorado Health Science.
Early in Gay’s career she became engaged in learning Ob/Gyn ultrasound with the goal to provide women with the best experience possible in the practice setting.
Gay attended Thomas Jefferson in Philadelphia for ultrasound education and became a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in Ob/Gyn. Gay participated as a practice reviewer for Ob/Gyn and MFM practices for AIUM.
In her early career, Gay practiced nursing and ultrasound with a private Ob/Gyn practice in Texas where she developed an ultrasound program for the practice. After relocating to Denver, CO, Gay transitioned to Maternal Fetal Medicine using her ultrasound experience to increase skills in fetal diagnostics. Gay worked principally as a WHNP and Sonographer in MFM practices in Colorado, New Mexico, and South Carolina.
In her spare time Gay enjoys traveling and the outdoors with her husband, Jerry and her two young Labs, Bevo and Zuzu. She also relaxes with needle crafts and sewing quilts for donation to kids and families.
Gay is also currently an ultrasound instructor at Ultrasound for Women’s Health Providers.
Cynthia Gay Hull MSN, WHNP, RDMS
